The ways that we conceptualize disability and the way we approach intervention in schools is quickly changing. Who gets service, what kind of service and how intervention and assessment intertwine is evolving through new models of decision making.



Course Description: The ways that we conceptualize disability and the way we approach intervention in schools is quickly changing.  Who gets service, what kind of service and how intervention and assessment intertwine is evolving through new models of decision making.  This workshop will demonstrate the latest concepts in prevention approaches, response-to-intervention (RTI), the tiered-approach.  Come and learn how revamping SLP’s workload to incorporate these models can assist students as well help in caseload management. 

 

Level of Learning:    Intermediate 

 

Learning Outcomes: At the completion of this event participants will be able to:

· Recognize the shortcomings of the “wait to fail” model of special education

· Describe the RTI model

Understand how to develop an RTI model at their school
